Posted on November 20, 2008. Filed under: Chicago, Elderly | Tags: , |

Relatives and caregivers are breaching the trust of the elderly by taking their money, property or valuables. This is done by:

·         Simply taking or misappropriating the elder’s money, property, or valuables.

·         Borrowing money (sometimes repeatedly) and failing to pay it back.

·         Denying services or medical care to conserve funds.

·         Giving away, transferring, or selling the elder’s possessions without authorization.

·         Signing or cashing pension or social security checks without authorization.

·         Misuse or misappropriation of ATM, credit cards, or bank account without proper authorization.

·         Disbursing the elder’s money to family or friends.

·         Forcing the elder to relinquish their resources by transferring or signing over their insurance policy, assets, or property.

·         Encouraging or forcing the elder to change their will or power of attorney.
